How are we, as Christian’s supposed to act in the presence of unsaved loved ones?
This question was asked of me today. My answer: just be yourself!
I think a lot of the time, there are unspoken expectations put on us when it is known that we are Christians. That we are expected to behave a certain way or do life differently and live to a perceived standard, or be perfect and that is true to an extent.
We are supposed to act differently in some ways. The Bible teaches us that we are in the world but we are not of it (John 17). It means that there is a higher standard we should live by. But what does that actually mean?
In this day and age, I believe it means that we choose to do life differently than our peers, with regard to making better and healthier, morally, ethically and spiritually correct decisions and choices. The Word of God (The Bible) is our guide book for life and as Christians, we should seek to follow Christ’s example and live according to The Word.
In order to do that, we must know what The Word says, what the Scriptures teach us. Then we will be able to apply it to our every day lives. That means that we must spend regular, perhaps even daily time reading and seeking to understand the Bible and then make continuous, constant choices and decisions to walk out what we have learnt and are continually learning, in our daily living.
Then as we grow more like Christ, we find that just simply living and journeying along this thing called life, we are becoming examples of what a Christian should be. Simply being ourselves should reflect God and He should be visible to others when they look at us and interact with us. They will notice that there is something different about us and that is Christ in us. We are reflections of Him.
