“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.”

1 Chronicles 29:11 (NLT)

What do you think when you hear the word adore? What does adore mean to you?

To me, adore means to stop and surrender every single utterance of praise and worship that I can muster. It is to give glory and honour where it is due, with every part of my being.

The dictionary puts adore this way: “to love and respect (someone) deeply; to worship; to venerate; to honour and admire, to regard with the utmost esteem.”

Sounds pretty spot on to me! So then, what should our posture of adoration be? How do we express our adoration to the King of Kings?

Would you believe I googled it?

Google says: “Kneeling is the appropriate posture of adoration…it shows the reverence due to Christ by his faithful followers.”

I’m not sure about you, but kneeling whilst singing is not the most comfortable or acceptable thing to do. However, perhaps we can adopt a stance where our bodies are lifting up praise, with our arms stretched high in complete abandon to express our utter adoration for our Lord.

Whenever I sing this beautiful Christmas Carol, I can’t help but get choked up. Tears flood my eyes as I am again reminded of the beauty of Christ. That God would send His only Son to this earth to become the Saviour of the world for us. Incomprehensible, yet true! Amazing Grace. He is entirely due our complete and utter awe and adoration.

Let us sing this carol this Christmas in a posture of adoration to our King. Giving Him all the praise that is due to His name.

Oh come, let us ADORE Him!
