Scripture Sunday – Be Still

May 24, 2020

Psalms 46:10 says “Be still and know that I am God”.

In this season of change and the unknown, I have clung tight to this verse, because it has helped me cling tighter to God – He is the known in our unknown.

He is consistent, never changing, un-failing, faithful, never ending, always the same, constant, near and with us. His promises stand true and remain. His Word teaches us that He looks after us, that we do not need to worry, that He cares for us more that He cares for the smallest bird, yet, He doesn’t let them grow hungry.

We just need to “be still”.

It’s so easy for me to want to try and control everything around me, to know that it’s all under-control and that everything is organised, planned and scheduled, to the point where I can become anxious, over-worked, frustrated, and even stressed (and not very pleasant to be around).

But God doesn’t want that for us. He wants us to be still, to rest in Him, to rely on Him, to hold fast to His Word and His promises and trust.

So, in this season of unknown, and as we slowly enter back into “real life” again, let us be mindful that it’s okay to not have all the answers, or to know where the path ahead is going to lead us, or what the future holds. Let us be still and hold fast to our God – the only one who does know and who holds us all in His wonderful, strong, mighty, capable hands.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you that you are God over everything. We rest in your presence now Lord, and know that you are God. We place our lives and our future in your hands. We ask that you hold us and keep us safe, that you guide us where we need to go, that you make the way and our future clear. We put our hope and trust in you Lord and thank you for all you have done, and all you are going to do. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
