Thankfulness

December 10, 2019

When I think about what there is to be thankful for, I am reminded about how thankfulness assisted my process of coming out of burnout. One person encouraged me when I returned home from burnout to think about three things I am thankful for everyday.

I was in the burnout; everything was heavy, burdened and things were perceived in a negative light. Yet, I took on the challenge to think about three things I am thankful for each day.

At first, it started out being a bit like a chore; being thankful for the sky, the ability to breathe, and for the day. Just trying to think from the top of my head what could be considered things to be thankful for that day.

As each day went on, my list of three things slowly became more creative and meaningful. I slowly started thinking differently, seeing with gratitude in the midst of the hard season of burnout.

‘A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.’

Proverbs 17:22 (NIV)

Now when a season seems hard, I challenge myself to think about all the things I am thankful for, because I know that being thankful will bring a delightful change of perspective.
